DESIRE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

Byron Stewart’s plan for this project was hailed as a national model for revitalizing housing projects by HUD.  The document was the basis of a later RFP which called for a holistic plan that included a complete restructuring and redevelopment of housing density and a dramatic increase in green space, user-friendly traffic and parking patterns, provisions for on-site social services, and a commercial corridor.  Ultimately, the plan was designed to leverage federal housing funds with substantial private sector investment to create a thriving, self sustaining community.
